Michael Chapman

One of the best known Norfolk landscape painters of the last sixty years, and now in his nineties, Michael Chapman is widely regarded as amongst Norfolk’s most accomplished artists.

Enjoying a considerable reputation not only for his classic and sought-after coastal views but also for his less familiar - and very bold - contemporary abstracts.

Born in London and having read medicine before entering Art College, he taught and lectured in art, and was for a number of years an art critic for the Arts Review magazine.

Michael has taught many of the younger generation Norfolk artists while continuing to paint his own distinctive and wonderfully evocative land and seascapes.

He has exhibited widely and his work is in many collections in this country and further afield including the USA, Norway, Switzerland, the Middle East, China and Hong Kong. He also continues to undertake commissions for portraits.

Over the years his exhibitions have included at the Richard Bradley Atelier, Norwich; Gallery 273 Queen Mary College, London; The Gallery at Holkham, Norfolk; Buxton Mill Gallery, Norfolk; Phillimore Gardens, London; Fairhurst Gallery, Norfolk; Drysdale Gallery, Crieff, Scotland; The Old Butchers Gallery, Cley, Norfolk; Castlenaudry, France
